Visa processing time

For Spain, the student visa usually takes around 12 weeks. The application process starts 3 months before you fly. This is the maximum time limit and no visa can be taken before it.

Stay back option and work permit in Spain

Students who have completed their course and want a stay back option can stay up to a maximum of 12 months. Students need to find a suitable job in Spain to extend their stay back options. 

Here are some of the requirements to get a residence permit in the country:

  • Students need to have health insurance
  • Students need to have education level 6 for Bachelors, level 7 for Master’s degree, and level 8 for the Ph.D. degree. 
  • Students need to be economically independent by finding a suitable job. 

Working rights on student visa

The student visa allows students to work in Spain part-time during their course for a maximum of 20 hours per week. Student visas in Spain are comparatively flexible. 

Visa conditions

There are 2 types of study visa for Spain which is:

  • Short-term student visa – students are going to study short courses, this visa is meant for them. It gives 90-180 days to stay in the country.
  • Long-term student visa – this type of visa is given to the students who are going to study for more than 6 months in the country. 

Intakes

In Spain, there are 2 intakes i.e. fall intake and spring intake. There are 2 deadlines to apply for fall intake which are in early June and early September. The intake for spring starts in February. 

It is not necessary to know Spanish to study in Spain if your course is in another language. Although knowing Spanish can help you achieve a better perspective of the country and can make your living hassle-free. 

Students need to have proof of funds to study in Spain which is usually €1000 per month. If you are planning to study for a long time, make sure you have a good bank balance. 

In most cases English proficiency results are required to study in Spain if you are planning Bachelor or master’s degree. For short-term courses, IELTS is not required depending on the course.
